In The Last Month…

Hey y’all!

So we have a lot of people here at Doulos from Texas…so the “Y’all” has been wearing off on me. Actually not really, but I do hear it a lot around here. I make a conscious effort to not pick up on that stuff simply because I’m afraid that it will slip into my classroom and I know it would, which would then cause major confusion in my little first grader’s minds! I can hear them already.

“Miss Lexie, whaaat iz y’alllll?”

In the past month lots has been going on.

*In first grade, my students have been learning so much and their English is becoming very impressive!! Just a minute ago, one of my kids came into my classroom to tell me something and he said (word for word), “Miss Lexie, do not close the door because Miss Katherine will be coming in soon”.   HOW COOL! At the beginning of the school year he could hardly say, “My name is…”. I have seen so much change in the lives of my little kids, especially with their language. It’s not easy learning a second language, while trying to learn your mother tongue as well. (I can vouch for that!) My students have to learn how to read in English and in Spanish for the first time, all at the same time! On top of that they are only 6 and 7 years old. Like I said, they are quite impressive!!! WOOHOO!

Recently, we have been working on matters of the heart. They are at an age where they learn a lot. They can learn a lot of good and fruitful things, but at the same time, they can also learn a lot of bad habits and pick up on a lot of bad attitudes. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor in a circle talking about our hearts and talking about how important it is to take care of our hearts.  One of our class verses comes from Luke 6:45, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of“. We have classroom conversations on how we can put good things into our heart and how to keep the bad things out. We also spend time praying and asking God to help us keep our hearts clean and pure. Satan is at work. Please continue to pray for their hearts!!!

*Life as Mrs. Gerent: GREAT!  It’s wonderful living with your best friend! Both Troy and I have been learning a lot and we take the time to talk everything out! Troy is very gracious…let’s just put it that way 🙂  We also spend a lot of time in prayer and in the word together nurturing our marriage as a couple. One of my “Love Languages” is quality time, so I love spending hours with him watching movies, going on walks at night, talking, making food, reading or reading our Bibles together.  Those are many of my favorite things!

Many people have been asking how they can be praying for me.

  • Pray for God to continue building a strong foundation in my marriage.
  • Pray for my student’s hearts, that only what is good and pure would remain their heart.
  • Pray for my finances, that God would bring people to support me longterm and on a monthly basis.
